The Heddon Bait and Tackle Company manufactured fishing tackle in Dowagiac from 1898 to 1984. While not the first or only company making artificial fishing lures around 1900, it can be argued that Heddon was the first company to manufacture fishing lures and market them on a large scale. The museum has a good Heddon Collection, including baits, reels, rods, photographs and original company documents.
