Description:
Black Satin Parasol with collapsable handle to be used as sunshade, typewritten note reads: "SUNSHADE, This old fashioned parasol or sunshade, belonged to Catherine Scott Beckwith, wife of P. D. Beckwith of Dowagiac. Mrs. Beckwith was instrumental in having the Beckwith Building erected as a memorial to her husband, founder of the Round Oak Company."
The smooth round wooden handle is 26" from top to bottom, larger at base for holding and folds half—way for ease of handling, also has hinge approx. 3" from tip to allow the shade to tilt when extended or resting on shoulder, the topside is covered with loosely gathered satin fabric and trimmed with 3 rows of scalloped edge ruffles around outer edge, fully lined underside hides the 'umbrella' mechanism which appears to be in working order, and black satin fabric is not faded and shows weaar with some tears, but stitching has faded to brown color.
