Round Oak Collection : The museum's Round Oak Collection online
Description:
Framed oil painting of foundry scene at Round Oak by Frank Freeland 1936, done as part of WPA project and hung in 1926 Dowagiac Central School on Main Street until building was razed circa 2007. Picture shows worker on left pouring molten metal into molds and 4 workers waiting to fill their long handled ladels, 1 worker manning the bull pot filled from Cupola (furnace) and dispensing liquid metal into pots hanging from ceiling tracks being directed by workers to other work locations. Windows indicated daytime work in the multi—level building. The painting was glazed for shine but some paints absorbed the glaze so it appears to have a dull finish.
