There is a line for the date, Sept 24 1871. The letter reads "First Nation Bank Cassopolis, Sir, Enclosed find Amos Smith note for collection and remittance and oblige" Signed respectfully P D Beckwith Dowagiac Mich. (His actual handwritting.) Printed letterhead is black, handwritten portion is yellowish—gold.
