Collection:
Round Oak
Description:
Cast iron frog with remnants of green enamel on bottom side; the frog was made by moulders at Round Oak Stove Co.; at the end of a workday, they would use the excess melted iron to make small objects like these as gifts for family and friends (they also made dogs and "Naughty Nellies); they would sometimes send them to the company's enamel department to coat them in green enamel; they would then be used as a paperweight or other uses
Dimensions:
H—3.25 W—4.25 D—4.25 inches
Date:
1900—1940
Notes:
Mrs. Hamper sold this to the Museum; her husband was the director of Museum until 1993 and she said that he claimed this was a Round Oak frog—— he was probably given the frog after leaving the Museum; in comparison with other frogs (Dr. Marshall Bishop), this one appears authentic
